Turning Trees into
Beautiful Functional Art

John Unruh - Artist

John Unruh’s passion for working with wood began at age eight when he started making yarn signs, wooden puzzles out of Elvis Presley’s face (he sold them to his classmates) and moved on to cedar chests, benches and lathe turning.  Opportunities eventually developed to a long  career in management, marketing, advertising and teaching graduate business courses throughout the world.  In 2015, he was finally able to turn his passion into a full-time profession of creating lathe turned functional art.   John takes great pride in finding a log destined for the wood stove to create an object of beauty and function.  His pieces are often purchased as mementos of an Alaskan trip or as wedding or special occasion gifts.  His goal is to bring the beauty of the Alaska woods into your home.  For him, this is the ultimate honor.
